Two of Thailand's most famous festivals (also known as the Thailand Lantern Festivals) that both take place around the November Full Moon Night : ๐๐ค๐ฎ ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ๐ (the floating lantern festival) and ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฃ๐ (the sky lantern festival) are usually celebrated on the same days.
Yi Peng is a Lanna tradition with the real celebration in northern Thailand, especially in Chiang Mai. Loy Krathong is celebrated all over Thailand. The most popular place for locals and tourists to celebrate Loy Krathong and Yi Peng in Chiang Mai is on the riverside of the Ping River. The areas around Nawarat Bridge, the Iron Bridge and Klong Mae Kha are the best spots for releasing Krathongs to the river. Please note that due to safety reasons, hot-air lanterns are permitted only in designated areas!
๐๐ฃ๐จ๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐๐ฅ : Flights in and out of Chiang Mai International Airport have been adjusted for safety reasons.Flights initially scheduled to operate after 7pm on Friday and Saturday have either been rescheduled or cancelled, to avoid the lanterns.
In 2024, the Loy Krathong and Yi Peng Festival in Chiang Mai will take place on 14-16 November. These festivals are also named as โCelebration of Lightsโ. On Friday evening, November 15, a big parade takes place in the inner city.
